An easy countdown for everyday activities
Use this free online countdown timer when you need to work within a set duration. Presets let you begin quickly, while custom hours, minutes and seconds give you more control. The timer calculates remaining time from a target deadline, so background-tab delays do not accumulate.
What happens when the countdown finishes?
The clock reaches zero and displays a completion message. If sound is enabled and your browser allows audio playback, your selected alert plays. Choose from five built-in sounds, preview them and adjust the volume. Choose whether the alarm plays once or repeats for 15, 30 or 60 seconds. You can also enable automatic countdown repeat to restart the same timer after each cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Does the timer work in another browser tab?
Yes. The timer uses a target time to calculate the remaining duration. Some browsers may delay the final sound notification while a tab is in the background.
Can I set a timer longer than one hour?
Yes. Enter a duration of up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds.
Can I repeat a countdown automatically?
Yes. Enable Automatically repeat countdown. The same duration will restart after each cycle until you pause or reset the timer. For alternating work and rest periods, use the Interval Timer.
Can the alarm sound more than once?
Yes. Under Repeat alarm, choose Play once or repeat the sound for 15, 30 or 60 seconds. The sound repeats about every 3 seconds, and you can stop it early. This is separate from Automatically repeat countdown, which restarts the timer itself.
Do the alarm sounds require downloads?
No. The alarm sounds are generated directly in your browser with the Web Audio API. Audio playback depends on your browser and device settings.
Does it work on mobile phones?
Yes. The controls and display adapt to phones, tablets and desktop browsers. Audio and fullscreen support depend on the browser and device.
